Diel of Norwich is the product of mid-12th century England, who, stolen by pirates at age 3-4, was taken aboard ship, and acted as a cabin boy for several years and then sold into slavery in Egypt. After his kind and benevolent master died, Diel was set free and worked his way back to England via land around the eastern and northern sides of the Mediterranean sea.
