| Sæþrð is a Saxon who lives in the village of Frome, Somerset, about 1008. She and some friends graze sheep for wool after the deaths of their husbands by Danish raiders. One of her earliest memories is the death of King Ædred in Frome in 955, when she was 4 years old. A pious woman named for a saxon saint, she is still coming to terms that the world did not end at year 1000, but privately suspects that the Church just miscounted. She wishes King Æthelred II and his nobles would better protect Frome from the Danes. |
