From the Coronet February 2023

Good people of Adiantum,

When the selection announcement for Adiantum’s next Baron and Baroness was made we got excited.  This is a chance to serve not just a few people of Adiantum but the Barony as a whole.  We talked to many former Barons and Baronesses, so that we could best understand how to serve the people, you.

Our desire is to build a solid community that is inclusive and supportive of each other.  Our veteran members have done a fantastic job ensuring we made it through the hardest part of the Pandemic, thank you to her Excellency Ayla for being a beacon of light and love in those dark years, we now have the task of inspiring and sharing knowledge with newer members so that they can be ready to fill much needed Officer positions that help our Barony thrive.  Deputies are needed for most of our Officer positions. Serving as a deputy is a great way to learn how things work. Many of our current Officers have been serving for a very long time and have done a great job, and are eager to share their knowledge.  We would like to inspire volunteers that can step in and allow them to recharge.

As we continue to move forward into the next 3 years we want to strengthen and maintain the welcoming and inclusive Barony that has become our Family.  For us family is very important, not just our blood family but our chosen family as well.  One of our goals is to support and encourage more Family Activities and Youth Armored Combat in the Barony.

Family Activities would have parents/guardians engaging with their youth and helping them find the SCA dream that many of us already embrace. This YAFA (Youth and Family Activities) Officer will inspire medieval dreams, laughter and family bonding opportunities that the families can do together in safe and healthy ways.

In addition, Youth Armored Combat is the first stepping stone to our Martial combat programs.  It is a chance for youth to learn safe and fun martial combat.  Learning tourney etiquette, having friends and family cheer them on, and feeling included in our society.  At Ursalmus we witnessed a Knighting where the Knight’ early years in the Youth Armored Combat program was spoken of.  To hear of a member of our society who started at such a young age and to see the love and joy of their peers as well as the people who watched them grow, was emotional and heart warming.

Let’s come together to be the change we want to see. To expand the good things that inspire us, and to leave behind the things that bring us down.  Together we can do anything.
